KunTao & Silat

KunTao

KunTao is Hokkien/Fukien dialect meaning Fist Way. Its generally used about those styles of Chinese martial arts that the Chinese immigrants of the various Southeast Asian countries brought with them and practiced. KunTao didn´t go through the same changes that Kung Fu in the mainland did. KunTao was always needed for defence and had to adapt to new environment, different mentality, different weapons etc. KunTao became often (but not always) influenced by the local styles as f.ex Silat. Many techniques and practices that one might consider “traditional” often in KunTao finds its natural practical solution.
The KunTao we practice however is true to its Chinese roots. We focus on powergeneration, conditioning and hardening of the body, and combat effectiveness. You will not find any flashy techniques or forms. But will only find principles, techniques, short forms etc that directly lends itself to actual combat.

Our agenda for KunTao-training is based on 4 basic principles:
UNDERSTANDING STRUCTURE, which will lead to
UNDERSTANDING ROOT, which is useless if you don’t understand
TRANSFER BODYWEIGHT, and they will give us the tools to reach
SPIRAL ROTATIONAL FORCE.

Practising KunTao will no doubt raise your martial skills to a much higher level.

Silat

Silat is a principlebased Martial Art, and thats how we approach it. Our Silat is from Tom Sotis and Ingmund Forberg. We teach Silat based on its principles and not necesarrily on one specific style, but draw inspiration from several styles as Mande Muda, Baringin Sakti, Harimau etc. Most of which we´ve learned from Ingmund. Ingmund is a very skilled Silat-practicioner whom have generously shared his knowledge with us.

A little about the styles
Mande Muda is a system created by the Suwanda family from Bandung in Indonesia and is based on 25 different styles from Indonesia. Mande Muda covers both stand up fighting and groundfighting in addition to a number of traditional weapons. Baringin Sakti is a system headed by Guru Edward Lebe that combines a number of systems from Sumatra in Indonesia. The system covers all ranges but the focus is on swift and effective groundfighting. Training in Baringin Sakti is characterized by an emphasis on low positions and lots of hard training for the legs.
